Losing someone you love is a painful experience; coping with the situation can be difficult. You might be feeling empty, lost, and devastated right now. You’re finding it hard to adjust to the changes your loved one’s death has brought to your life. You don’t know how long it will take you to accept the fact that your beloved family member is gone.
Perhaps your grief is associated with other common losses that we can experience in life; divorce, miscarriage, loss of a beloved pet, loss of career, hopes &dreams, loss of yours or a loved one’s functioning due to disease or mental illness……..human losses are many and varied and bring suffering and pain to our human existence.
Feeling lonely, shattered, disorientated, angry, guilty, sad, numb…..these are all normal grief responses to significant losses. Grief, can impact your sense of self, your faith, your temperament and your sense of safety and reality. Sometimes grief can lead us into depression that can be difficult to get out of. You need someone to share your feelings with during this challenging time.
It’s not healthy to keep things bottled up and to deny the pain. Talking about your loss can help ease your pain and suffering. A grief counsellor can give the support you need during tough times like this. At Bethesda, staff provide a dignified and caring space where you can explore and process your losses, reach acceptance, find new strengths and meaning in life and learn to adjust so that you can move forward in life.
Support during your Suffering
Grief impacts us emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually and it impacts our relationships and our functioning. Grieving is hard work so it’s good to know that there’s a place to go for sensitive help and support. Narelle Williams, Bethesda’s Counsellor and Grief Recovery Specialist, has been providing compassionate counselling services for nearly ten years. She draws from a variety of grief models and utilizes some of the most effective grief recovery methods available.
Narelle will provide you with a safe and caring space where you will be compassionately supported through your grieving journey. You will find help in accepting the reality of your losses, support while you work through the pain of your grief and care as you learn to adjust to a new environment where your loss or loved one is no longer present. You will be encouraged to not necessarily “say goodbye” but rather to emotionally relocate your loved one or your sense of loss into a part of yourself so that you can continue on with your life whilst remembering and giving honour to your loved one or loss.
Grief counselling is offered individually, for whole families and in short recovery groups.
